Lennar Presents $15,000 to Dunn Elementary through the Focused Acts of Caring Program
October 14, 2020Lennar presented Dunn Elementary with $15,000 last week as part of the company's Focused Acts of Caring program. Lennar's Houston division has been supporting this school since 2014 and has witnessed the positive impact these donations have made for the students, administrators and facility.
Dunn is a Title 1 Elementary School located only a few miles from the company's Houston office and one of the company's communities. Some of the students attending the school are children of Lennar homeowners. Working with limited resources, staff and students of the schools must overcome multiple challenges as 82% of its students are economically disadvantaged.
Principal Terese Pollard approaches her position with tenacity and enthusiasm and shares that teachers at the school go above and beyond their required job descriptions to purchase supplies and clothing for students, invest additional time with students who need help, and navigate challenges presented by families in poverty.
In addition to the Focused Acts of Caring donations, Lennar has hosted an annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, been part of the Supply/Uniform & Backpack Drive, and sponsored families who applied through the Aldine School District for assistance in providing Christmas gifts for their children.
Dunn has used the proceeds from past grants to purchase new basketball goals and repave the court, refurbish the front courtyard, signage and new umbrellas, provide scholarship to Aldine ISD HS grads, purchase school club t-shirts and various educational tools and equipment, and a community "Spark Park" on property.
Lennar is grateful to have the opportunity to share their good fortune with others through this program!
