Katy ISD Plans School Complex at Katy-Hockley and Longenbaugh
January 14, 2022A new complex of schools to include Elementary School #45, Junior High #18 and High School #10 will be constructed just east of Katy-Hockley Road and Longenbaugh, just down the road from Friendswood Development Company's Winward community in Katy ISD.
Road work and utilities to the schools are starting now and bids are going out for all three facilities, which are part of the 2021 Katy ISD Bond which passed last spring. All four propositions making up Katy ISD's $676.23 million bond package received support from voters in the May 1 election. Katy ISD's debt is a direct result of student enrollment growth. Student enrollment grew from approximately 32,400 during the 1999-2000 school year, to more than 84,174 as reported in October 2020 to PEIMS. This represents a 159.7 percent increase in students. The bond package will fund more than 400 projects across the district, including the construction of five new schools, major renovations for aging campuses, safety improvements and technology upgrades for schools.
Elementary School #45 is looking to be open in August of 2023 and will be home to 1280 students. Junior High #18 will open in fall 2024 and house 1400 students. High School #10 will also open in fall 2024 and will have a capacity of 3000 students. It will include a tennis court facility, an AG barn, and a natatorium, which will feature a 25-yard pool with 40 x 60 diving well and seating for 275 spectators.
