Friendswood Development Company’s Woodtrace Wilderness Kids Triathlon Makes $5,000 Donation to Tomball ISD’s Decker Prairie Elementary School
October 19, 2021Friendswood Development Company, which is best known for developing some of Houston’s signature master-planned communities including Fairfield and Kingwood, hosted the Woodtrace Wilderness Kids Triathlon presented by Village Builders on Sunday, August 15, 2021 in its Tomball-area community of Woodtrace. The race, a USA Triathlon-sanctioned event, attracted nearly 200 youth athletes from across the Houston area. Proceeds of the event benefited Decker Prairie Elementary School and last week, a $5,000 check was presented to Decker Prairie’s
Principal Brenda Blackmon and Tomball ISD Assistant Superintendant George Flores by the Woodtrace Foundation.
“We are beyond thrilled with this donation,” said Blackmon. “We spoke with our staff and collectively we decided to use the funds for leveled classroom libraries.” Blackmon also commented that she is excited to see events like this triathlon encouraging kids to get outside and live a healthy, active lifestyle. Children living in Woodtrace attend Decker Prairie Elementary School.
The swim was 100 yards for ages 5-10 and 200 yards for ages 11-15; bike ride was 2.35 miles for 5-10 and 4.7 miles for ages 11-15; and run was 1 mile for 5-10 and 2 miles for 11-15. Fowlkes Event, best known for putting on the Texas Ten Series and The Woodlands Marathon, was the race management company for the race. The event’s presenting sponsor was Village Builders and Drees Custom Homes, J. Patrick Homes, LJA Engineering, Trinity Performance Coaching, Tomball Yard Greetings, Boe Creative, Bike Minded Guru and Crescere Digital also sponsored this event.
Lauren Kelly of KPRC Channel 2’s at Houston Life served as the race emcee. All participants received a race t-shirt and goodie bag, as well as a finisher medal; top female and male finishers in each age category were presented with award plaques.
