Friendswood Development residents and the Houston community can mark the calendar for Wednesdays from 6pm to 8pm at The Grove, 1611 Lamar Street through September 26th! The Grove, Discovery Green, and Mix 96.5 have partnered for Sundown at The Grove presented by Land Rover.
This weekly cocktail hour will take place in the upstairs restaurant, the Treehouse featuring extraordinary views of the downtown Houston skyline. Guests will enjoy complimentary light bites, live bands, and more. Live entertainment includes Moodafaruka and Dharma.
Get fit this month...for free! Discovery Green’s Healthy Living Series includes free Zumba and yoga classes with no pre-registration required! Classes include:
Bum-ba Toning- Mondays at 6:30 PM. Tighten and tone your bum and body! This energetic class is taught by Oscar Sajche. A very limited number of yoga mats are available for public use, so it is recommended that you bring your own yoga mat and two small two pound weights if possible.
Core Focused Yoga- Tuesdays at 6:30 PM. Strengthen your body, relax your mind, and find your center in Core Focus Yoga. This all-levels yoga class is taught in a fluid sequence of poses and exercises that builds strength and flexibility. The focus is on abdominal and core muscles to promote healthy alignment for daily living.
Zumba! Wednesdays at 6:30 PM. Experience the exercise craze that has everyone moving to the beat of lively music! Zumba is taught by Oscar Sajche.
Summer Nights Salsa- Thursdays at 6:30 PM. All the traditional music, soul and passion of street-style salsa!
Slow Flow Yoga- Saturdays at 9:30 AM. The perfect antidote to our fast-paced world. This class is taught by Nicholas Auger. A very limited number of yoga mats are available for public use, so it is recommended that you bring your own yoga mat if possible.
Kayaking Class- Wednesdays at 6:30 PM. Learn how to kayak with Buffalo Bayou Shuttle Service at Discovery Green! The class is broken into two stages. Stage 1: Safety and Instruction, Stage 2: Supervised Paddling.
On Saturday, June 30 at 8 PM Discovery Green will present “Art Car: The Movie”. Join film creators Carlton Ahren and Ford Gunter as they present their film (which has been eighteen years in the making) at Discovery Green!
The film follows Rebecca Bass and her high school class as they prepare an entry for the annual event and exposes the audience to this unique art form, the camaraderie within the art community, and offers a glimpse of life “outside the box.” In creating this film, the co-directors traveled across the country and the world to speak with artists and discover what drives their visionary creations. The film also explores how this art form challenges social norms through self-expression on the ultimate public canvas.

According to the press release, Chipotle Kid Power Festival- a first time event- is all about kids! it will be held Saturday May 26, 2012 from 11 AM until 7 PM.
Australian interactive theater troupe, Polyglot Theater, presents the Texas premiere of "We Built This City". Children will have the opportunity to use cardboard boxes to build a "city" and then knock it down. Kids will also have the opportunity to participate in a youth oriented yard sale, the Discovery Kids Swap Meet, on the White Promenade. Kids can learn about the marketplace firsthand, and earn money from the sale of their old toys, books, CDs, DVDs and computer games. They can also learn about philanthropy, since a portion of their rental fee is donated to a charitable cause chosen by the DG Kids Committee.
